Our
purpose here is to share photos and methods from our many bicycle trips.
This is one of my favorite bike accessories.

Why Silvercycle?
I ride a beautiful
silver long wheelbase recumbent named Silver Ghost and I am also old enough
to have silver hair even if it is only thinking about turning silver.
Purpose:
To share our bicycle
travels in the hope that someone else will decide to try two wheel travel.
Those for whom this is impossible may travel vicariously by sharing my
photos and observations. My goal here is to begin with the most recent
bike trip on which I carried a digital camera. I will work back in time
as I can transfer my film to digital.
Where:
We have bicycled extensively in Western Europe as well as New Zealand,
Nova Scotia and Canada. As Americans, we really haven't traveled all that
much in the United States. The primary reason for this is that I am too
old and fragile to camp and distances are often too great to ride from
"Bed to Bed" as we do in Europe. To ride here, we need to go
on organized tours, whereas in Europe we feel comfortable to take off
on our own with my little bit of French and my few words of German.
History:
Fifteen years ago when I was 55, I decided that to celebrate my 55th birthday
I would train for and ride the Seattle to Portland ride which was looking
to get ten thousand riders to commemorate it's tenth year. I huffed and
I puffed, but I managed to finish the 200 mile ride on two of the hottest
days ever for the Pacific North West. That was many bicycles and many
miles ago. In September of that first year of riding we bought a tandem
and rode between Banff and Jasper in Canada. The following year we bought
touring bikes and were introduced to France. That was the beginning of
an ongoing love affair with Cycling in France.
In this summer of my 70th year we are heading back to France to travel
down some of those roads that stay so prominently in my memories.
We
hope you enjoy your visit and come back often to see what we have added.
